HISTORY OF NCC

The National Cadet Corps (Hindi: राष्ट्रीय कैडेट कोर) is the Indian military cadet corps with its Headquarters at New Delhi. It is open to school and college students on voluntary basis. National Cadet Corps is a Tri-Services Organization, comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force, engaged in grooming the youth of the country into disciplined and patriotic citizens. The National Cadet Corps in India is a voluntary organization which recruits cadets from high schoolscolleges and Universities all over India. The Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. The officers and cadets have no liability for active military service once they complete their course but are given preference over normal candidates during selections based on the achievements in the corps.

HISTORY OF 29 (K) Bn

32 KERALA BATTALION NCC, PAYYANUR

 

I.          Brief History

 

The raising of 32 Kerala Bn NCC commenced at Kasaragod on 01 Aug 1966 under the Command of Major N Kunharan.  The unit was initially allotted 6 SD Coys and 15 JD Troops. In 1973-74 the unit was reorganized in to 4 SD Coys, 15 JD Troops. The Bn HQ moved to its present location at Payyanur on 01 Jul 1973 in a rented accommodation.  In 1985-86 the unit was allotted 2 more JD Troops thus enhancing the total cadet strength to 4 SD Coys and 17 JD Troops.  Thereafter for in last 27yrs lot of withdrawal and re-allotment has taken place. As on today the str of this Battalion is 05 SD/SW Coy, 03 SD/SW Pls and 16 Tps, covering two districts ie Kannur and Kasaragod.

 

This unit is holding 3 acres of land at Edat, Near Kendriya Vidyalaya Payyanur which was gifted by Payyanur Education Society, at present this unit functioning in rented building. Construction of NCC complex including office building was initiated before two years. Now initial allotment of 2 crores is with NCC, by which PWD is likely to start construction shortly
